Marie Louise Roed Rasmussen

Oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgeon at Rigshospitalet

Marie Louise Roed Rasmussen is a senior consultant and associate professor from the University of Copenhagen. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Copenhagen in 2006 and a PhD from the same university in 2010. In 2017, she became a specialized physician in ophthalmology at Rigshospitalet’s Department of Ophthalmology in Copenhagen, where she now works as an oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgeon.

In addition, Marie Louise has published several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters and given over 60 invited talks at conferences and webinars worldwide on educational and subspecialty topics. On PubMed you will find her on topics like vernal keratoconjunctivitis, dry eyes, orbital tumours, phantom eye syndrome, teleophthalmology and, recently, the use of AI with ChatGTP. She’s also a co-author of the new textbook for the ESOPRS Subspeciality exam.

Marie Louise has served on numerous advisory committees and in honorary positions in the last 10 years, like the SOE-YO President, SOE Education committee member, the Young Ophthalmology International Subcommittee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Ophthalmology Foundation, and the Santen advisory board member in Denmark.

Marie Louise has received several awards for her work as chair of the SOE-YO and AAO-YO committees, including the Honorary Grant from the Danish Ophthalmological Association (DOS) in 2019, the Secretary Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2019, and the Special Recognition Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2021.
