Ophthalmologist, Vitreoretinal Surgeon
Peter van Etten has practised as an ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon since 2016, starting his career at The Rotterdam Eye Hospital. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology and has further specialised in vitreoretinal surgery through a fellowship at The Rotterdam Eye Hospital.
Peter’s career in eye care began earlier, with a strong background in opticianry and optometry. He completed his opticianry education at Zadkine in Rotterdam in 2000 and expanded his expertise by obtaining a degree in Optometry at the Hoge school van Utrecht in 2004. This foundation equipped him with extensive knowledge and experience in vision care, which he has continued to develop throughout his medical career.
Currently, Peter is a consultant in vitreoretinal surgery at the Retina Operatie Centrum Utrecht, where he has been based since 2020.
Peter actively engages in clinical research, concentrating on enhancing treatments for retinal detachments. He is also the founder of the continuing education platform Oogheelkunde UpToDate and a member of several professional organisations including the Dutch Ophthalmological Society (NOG) and the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURetina).
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and serves as a lecturer and instructor at the European School of Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO).
