Vinita Rangroo Thrane

Biography
Vinita Rangroo Thrane is a consultant ophthalmologist working with pediatric ophthalmology and strabismology in Oslo and Bergen. Her main focus is strabismus surgery and ophthalmic outreach work. Vinita is currently involved with various ophthalmic charities in India and Right to Sight in Kenya to improve access to healthcare. She has also worked as a researcher at the Universities of Oslo, Bergen and Rochester (United States), and was awarded a Fulbright scholarship for this work. Some of her research and doctoral work in the USA and Oslo was focused on cutting-edge optical imaging and neurophysiology (read about it here). Recently, she and some fellow researchers discovered a novel fluid outflow system from the back of the eye – you can read an article here.
Vinita’s professional passion is to reduce the burden of eye disease worldwide, especially in children, through freely accessible educational content and outreach work in order to improve access to eye care.
She’s married to fellow ophthalmologist Alexander Thrane. They live together with their three children in Bergen, Norway.
